Child-Parent Psychotherapy

Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is a treatment model for children 6 years old and younger who are experiencing attachment or mental health problems, or who have been exposed to a potentially traumatic event.  The treatment is based on attachment theory, but also informed by psychodynamic, developmental, trauma, social learning and cognitive-behavioral theories.  The main goal of treatment is to strengthen the relationship of the child with their caregiver in the service of restoring the child's social-emotional, cognitive and interpersonal functioning.

Attachment, Regulation and Competency

Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) is a treatment framework developed for children who have experienced complex trauma.  The model involves the child and all caregiving systems in treatment in order to target the skills and competencies that research shows are negatively affected by traumatic stress and attachment disruptions.

DIRFloortime

DIRFloortime is an intervention used to promote an individual's development through a respectful, playful, joyful and engaging process.  It is used to help children, young adults and adults with a wide range of emotional, sensory, regulatory, motor, learning and developmental challenges.  DIRFloortime is recognized as a leading evidence-based approach to engaging and supporting autistic individuals as well as others with neurodevelopmental differences.

Early Learning/School Observation and Consultation

It is not uncommon for young children who are referred to treatment to experience some difficulties in their early learning settings.  For many, those difficulties are the reason why therapy is being sought.  While many caregivers and teachers can describe what those challenges are, such as separation anxiety, difficulties making friends, low frustration tolerance, etc., it's much harder for people to pinpoint why those challenges are occurring.  An early learning/school observation can help everyone in the child's life understand what might be going on for your child.  Through this shared understanding we can create a support plan for your child.

Video Intervention Therapy

Video Intervention Therapy (VIT) was designed to help individuals better understand how they interact with others.  Alongside the therapist, the individual watches a short video of themselves interacting with others and reflects on what is communicated, both in words and by their body.  VIT has been integrated into different treatment programs, including parent-infant therapy centers.  It is a useful tool during parent guidance sessions to better understand interactions between the caregiver and the child during dyadic sessions.  It helps the caregiver slow down and observe what may have transpired in the interaction, and learn to read subtle, often unconscious, cues communicated by their child and themselves.

Circle of Security Parenting Program

The Circle of Security Parenting Program (COSP) is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.  The COSP model helps caregivers understand their child's emotional world by learning to read emotional needs, support their child's ability to successfully manage emotions, enhance the development of their child's self-esteem, and honor the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure.
