Consultation for Mental Health Professionals

Psychodynamic Consultation

Intended for licensed mental health professionals who are interested in integrating psychodynamic theory in their clinical practice with children and families, or who wish to further hone their clinical skills in the therapy room by using a psychodynamic lens.

Consultation includes support with case conceptualization, use of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual-2 (PDM2), integration of parent guidance in child treatment, exploration of transference and countertransference and how to understand both in order to inform treatment, and how to use the psychodynamic frame to guide interventions.  Review of process notes, audio or video recordings, and reading assignments are part of the consultation process.

Infant and Early Childhood Reflective Consultation

Intended for licensed mental health professionals who wish to learn more about infant and early childhood mental health treatment, or who have already received specialized training but are looking to receive reflective supervision in their clinical or supervisory role within infant and early childhood settings.

Work with the youngest of children and their caregivers can stir up thoughts, memories and feelings that can inform treatment.  However, if left unexamined, it can also cause professionals to act prematurely or react in ways that leave the family feeling unheard, unseen and disempowered.  Reflective practice is at the heart of all infant and early childhood work, and reflective consultation is one of the ways providers can continue to consider the past, be curious about the present, and look within themselves before deciding to act (or not act) with a family or a supervisee.
